Hyperbaric Therapy

Specific Hyperbaric programs designed to improve recovery time and injury severity

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy refers to the administration of 100% oxygen at a pressure that is greater than atmospheric pressure. This mode of therapy increases the rate of delivery of oxygen to the lungs, blood and ultimately the tissues. Hyperbaric therapy has been used for a wide range of medical conditions to promote tissue and bone healing and repair, and in specific bacterial infections. It has been used successfully for the treatment of gas embolism, carbon-monoxide poisoning, diabetic wounds and decompression following diving or high altitude complications.

Its use in the treatment of sports-related injuries is less well established, however it is the subject of considerable current research into its potential therapeutic benefits.

The High Performance Training Centre in Richmond will offer Hyperbaric Therapy on-site, with specific programs designed to improve recovery time and injury severity. All ESS hyperbaric therapists will be fully qualified and each session overseen by a qualified Division 1 registered nurse with specialist post graduate qualifications and experience. Our specialists will consult directly with your medical practitioner to design a program that is appropriate to your needs and monitor your progress.

We will provide 24 hour access to the hyperbaric chamber for both individual and team use. Our clients can be assured that the hyperbaric facility at ESS Richmond, when installed, will comply with all standards and safety requirements and that a demanding quality and safety program will be implemented. We aim to develop our research profile and cooperate with researchers and medical practitioners specialising in hyperbaric therapy in both sports and general medicine contexts, to establish best practice according to the best available evidence.
